# Revision Timetable Generator
Aren't you bored of spending hours on a revision timetable and you use it for... a week. What if you could generate a revision timetable in seconds? - very little effort required!
## Generating Your timetable
When you first click on the timetable page, or you do not have a timetable for this week, you will be automatically taken to our timetable generator. Here's everything you need to do:
To get the most out of the timetable generator, I highly recommend going to the subjects page first and registering your subjects. This means we can give you tailored resources, topic list and more to help you learn.
You will first see a dropdown labelled "Session Mode".
In this dropdown, you get two options, depending on how you want your timetable to be structured.
**Fixed per day**: Every day has the same number of sessions.
**Variable (Mon-Sun)**: You can customise how many sessions you do on each day of the week. In most cases, I'd recommend this option.
The next box(es) are there to help you choose the number of sessions you want in a day. If the option above was selected as variable, there will be seven boxes to fill in, one for each day of the week. If not, each day will follow the number of days you placed in the box.
After that is a time per session box. Fill in how long you want each session to take and move on.
We recommend filling about 40-50% of available time with revision slots. Plan your week accordingly. So if you have 4 hours free each day, choose 3 or 4 30-minute slots daily.
If you try to do too much revision in too little time, the generator will complain.
Finally, select the week that you want the timetable to be active for. You can select the current week, or the following two weeks. Each week starts on Monday.
If you followed the tip of adding your subjects to the subjects page, you can skip this step.
Now, you can add your subjects. Just type the name of a subject in each box, and hey presto, you're ready!
Note that if you add your subjects manually like this, our timetable will be unable to load topics, questions or any resources based on your subject. This makes it so much harder to revise using our other resources.
Click Generate to create your timetable. You will automatically now be taken to the timetable page!
## What now?
Now you have your timetable, you can do a bunch of cool things with it.
### Expanded vs. Compact view
There's a toggle in the top left that allows you to change between expanded and compact view. Expanded view provides a nice list of all of your sessions, in order, while compact view provides a small grid.
### Switch between weeks
If you have generated timetables for the next few weeks, you can switch between them using the dropdown at the top.
### Export your timetable
In the corner lies a little export button. You can download your timetable in whichever way suits you, either as an image or a PDF.
Pro and ultimate users get an extra option: they can sync it to their Google Calendar. Just select "Google Calendar", allow Revision Time access to your account (first time only), and we'll put all the subjects in there for you!
### Not happy with your timetable?
Just generate another and your current timetable will be overwritten.
## Timetable Sessions
Is it Revision Time now? Well if you are revising you can use the timetable sessions on the timetable page (or your dashboard), to have quick links to all of our epic tools and even timing recommendations.
You can even enter a fullscreen timer to help keep your focus!
## FAQs
Currently, Revision Time's timetable generator is reserved for those who have signed up for a free account with us.
However, following the successful launch of a couple of features to those without accounts, we are open to exploring the possibility of making the timetable generator useful, no matter whether you have signed up, in the future.
Yes, our revision timetable generator is completely free to use. There are a couple of limitations, currently, which we are hoping to get rid of in the future to make it completely free.
This limitations include custom "commitments" and Google Calendar exports.
Commitments is included in another tool, and so we do not talk about it in depth here, but you can find out more information over on [the Commitments page](/commitments).
Google Calendar exports are an optional add-on feature on the Revision Time Pro and Ultimate plan, and prices start from less than £4 per month. If you are only going to use Pro for Google Calendar exports, I will be honest, the price might not be worth it, but it does come with all other pro-exclusive revision time features too (including commitments, more credits, full access to duels and more)!
There are two different methods of adding subjects, of which one is better than the other, so we'll start with that one.
**Method #1** - Add your subjects on the subjects page. To do this, just click on "subjects" on the sidebar, and start creating. For more information, you can find detailed steps over on [the Subjects page](/subjects).
**Method #2** - Add your subjects manually during the timetable creation process. There is a list of subjects, and if you just keep adding subjects, you'll be able to supply them manually to our timetable engine. Blank subjects will be ignored. It is not possible to add topics, link exam boards or change the colours of these subjects. If you require any of these things, please use Method #1.
Because we are mindful of your personal data and delete it when it is no longer needed, if you have generated over your timetable, or your timetable was for a week which is no longer available to view, then we cannot restore it.
Currently, this is not possible. If you have registered subjects, it will choose sessions based on your weakest subjects. If you do not, it will split them evenly.
However, custom allocation of sessions is something we intend to bring in very soon! Keep an eye on updates!
